The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) recently rejected China's home-grown wireless encryption standard WAPI (WLAN Authentication and Privacy Infrastructure), opting for the United States' 802.11i as the new international standard for wireless security. The Chinese government claimed irregularities were involved in the selection process and announced it will continue to promote WAPI in the domestic market.
